Live Opportunity

Computational Structural Engineer

  • Job Type Full Time

The Role

As LEKO scales across Europe, the ability to quickly and confidently configure the LEKO structural system for new projects becomes a critical capability.

This role sits at the intersection of structural engineering, product development, and computational design. You will take ownership of the technical development of the LEKO lattice panel system, helping shape how the system is understood, engineered, and deployed across projects. This includes developing a deep understanding of the system’s structural behaviour as well as its thermal, acoustic, hygroscopic, and fire performance, and translating this knowledge into clear engineering logic, parametric workflows, and computational tools that support the design and deployment of the system.

In the short term, you will become the internal reference for the LEKO system, supporting engineers, architects, and contractors working with it. This includes advising on structural configurations, validating design assumptions, and helping resolve non-standard conditions that arise on real projects.

Over time, you will consolidate this experience into clear design rules, verification methods, and technical guidance that define how the system is designed and applied. These foundations will then be translated into pre-sizing and sizing tools, enabling the LEKO system to be configured quickly and reliably across a wide range of building typologies.

You will also further the existing certification framework of the LEKO system and lead the development of new certifications, including supporting the transition from ATEx to ETA and preparing the system for deployment across additional markets.

This is a transversal role connecting engineering knowledge, product development, certification strategy, and parametric tooling, with direct impact on how the LEKO system evolves and is applied in real buildings. You report directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities

Pre-sizing & Sizing Tool

  • Design and own the structural and building physics logic underpinning LEKO’s sizing tools
  • In the interim, serve as the human answer layer for structural, building physics, and system-level technical queries — from internal teams, external engineers, and project partners — with the explicit objective of progressively replacing manual responses with automated tool outputs as the knowledge base is formalised
  • Deliver a POC in the short term, then iterate toward a production-grade tool integrated into the digital manufacturing pipeline
  • Ensure the tool captures multicriteria (structural, hygroscopic, thermal, acoustics and fire behavior) of LEKO panels across real building configurations

Certification Roadmap

  • Own LEKO’s technical approval roadmap: ETA completion, ATEx → ATEC transition, UK/IE, BE/NL certifications
  • Prepare technical dossiers, test programs, and justification files with notified bodies and approval institutions
  • Anticipate North American (US/CA) market entry requirements
  • Coordinate with external consultants and laboratories as needed

Product Development & Integration

  • Build parametric structural workflows in Grasshopper/Rhino using Karamba3D, SOFiSTiK, or other structural engineering tools.
  • Strategise on broader compatibility with existing FEM tools, ensuring LEKO integrates effectively into established engineering workflows.
  • Ensure appropriate solutions are in place to demonstrate the system’s performance and compliance with applicable norms and standards.
  • Participate in the development of new LEKO panel configurations and construction details, ensuring structural and regulatory feasibility from early stage
  • Collaborate with team members on next generation product developments (intergarted junction connecions, etc)
  • Contribute to parametric modelling of connection details, panel assemblies, and building configurationsDevelop Python/C# components that connect structural outputs (member sizes, connection forces, load paths) to downstream fabrication data within the manufacturing preparation pipeline,
  • Collaborate with the Environmental Engineering team to integrate carbon performance into structural design decisions.

Requirements

Must Have

  • Master’s or PhD in Structural/Civil Engineering;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in structural engineering, building physics, or a closely related discipline, including hands-on delivery of real construction projects. We are open to discussing the role with strong candidates who bring relevant enthusiasm and experience.
  • A product and systems mindset: genuinely motivated to put engineering knowledge at scale through computational tools, not just to apply it project by project
  • In-depth Eurocode 5 (timber) knowledge - able to write a timber panel verification from scratch
  • Understanding of building physics aspects relevant to timber systems (thermal, acoustic, moisture/hygroscopic behaviour, fire performance)
  • Proficient in Rhino/Grasshopper with ability to author custom components (Python or C#)
  • Hands-on experience with SOFiSTiK, Karamba3D, or other structural engineering software in a parametric/scripted workflow
  • Ability to translate structural engineering logic into computational workflows and design tools
  • Comfortable with Git and version-controlled development
  • Fluent in English. French and/or German are strong assets.

Strong Plus

  • Experience with timber construction systems (LVL, CLT, glulam, or similar)
  • Exposure to European technical approvals (ETA, ATEx, or national equivalents)
  • Background in surrogate modelling, form-finding, or topology optimization
  • Experience integrating structural tools into automated manufacturing or data pipelines
