At this moment, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Rhino & Computational Specialist to lead and advance our modelling and computational design expertise across the office. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on problem-solving, bridging digital innovation and design excellence. The role should be fulfilled in our BIG Barcelona office.

While remaining engaged in day-to-day project workflows, the ideal candidate is someone who can define and implement strategic directions for computational design at BIG, by writing code, developing tools, discovering and deploying new workflows and collaborating with project teams to meet real deadlines.


Main responsibilities:

  • Develop, document, and maintain in-house Rhino and Grasshopper tools, plugins, and digital assets.
  • Lead the development and implementation of computational design strategies for projects.
  • Collaborate closely with design teams to integrate parametric, data-driven, and generative design processes into active project workflows.
  • Mentor and guide junior specialists and architects on computational best practices.
  • Work with leadership to define long-term digital innovation goals and implementation plans.
  • Collaborate with the Design Technology team to maintain and evolve BIG’s computational infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the integration of machine learning and AI-based workflows in design and analysis.


Job requirements:

  • 8+ years of professional experience in architecture or design technology roles.
  • Proven expertise in RhinoGrasshopper, and Python/C# scripting.
  • Experience leading computational workflows on large-scale, complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of geometry, data management, and interoperability with BIM (Rhino.Inside.Revit, IFC, etc).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both designers and technical teams.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken. Spanish is a plus.
  • Strategic mindset: ability to design digital frameworks and roadmaps while remaining hands-on.
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-disciplinary collaboration and mentoring.
  • Experience with version control systems (Git), cloud workflows, and APIs.
  • Familiarity with machine learningAI-assisted design, or data analytics is a strong plus.

      For our office in Barcelona, we are looking for talented and self-motivated students interested in helping us push the boundaries of design, documentation and construction in architectural practice. The ideal candidate should have a strong drive and curiosity for helping us rationalize ideas into constructable experiences. You will be working together with the BIM and DT team on multiple projects and stages. Learning about how to approach and implement BIM workflows within the different stages of the project.
       
      As an Intern at BIG, you will:

      • Experience a dynamic and inspiring environment in an international creative community.
      • Work alongside and learn from some of the best architects and BIM Specialists in the field.
      • Play a key role in developing projects across their later stages.
      • Work across multiple projects, typologies and scales.

       
      To be considered, you must:

      • Apply only if your internship can run for a minimum of 6 months working full-time.
      • Have at least 2 years of architecture school behind you.
      • Be familiar with Revit, its modelling tools and main documentation workflows.
      • Ideally have experience with Rhino and grasshopper as well (optional).
      • Collaborate comfortably with designers and managers at all levels.
      • Have a flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and be able to take initiative in response to direction or instruction.
      • Be capable of multi-tasking projects that often vary in scale and scope.
      • Be fluent in English and have great interpersonal communication skills
      • Be positive, curious and have a flexible attitude.
      • Be a current student and won’t graduate during your internship. Graduates (master level) cannot be considered as interns with regards to the Spanish legislation. We will follow up on your educational status and you will have to sign a declaration prior to your start.

        The Role


        We are looking for a Digital Artist to join our growing studio Art Department and bring architecture and design to
        life through compelling digital storytelling. You will play a vital role creating compelling visual material that
        evokes the story, experience and character of our design work, helping clients, communities and stakeholders
        envision and feel the future environments we design.


        What You'll Do


        Visualisation


        • Produce visual material in a style suited to individual briefs, ensuring all work is completed to a high and
        consistent standard that effectively communicates the story as intended.
        • Transforming concept sketches, 2D drawings, rhino or escape models into stunning 3D visual or
        animations - using light, material, mood, framing and composition to create evocative material


        Delivery & Collaboration


        • Working on design content from early concept development through to design refinement, but also
        material for marketing and communication. Working to tight deadlines and in a high-pressured
        environment.
        • You’ll work closely with the HoAD, Group Leaders, Project Leaders, Project teams, Domains, within the Art
        Department, and with external visual collaborators, communicating workflows and timelines enabling
        collaboration and production delivery.


        Storytelling & Art Direction


        • Shape and refine the visual narrative of each project in close partnership with design leads, bringing a
        strong artistic perspective to the collaboration. Curating mood boards, stand alone visuals, image sets or
        sequences that express not just what a place looks like, but how it feels to experience
        • Guide visual consistency across teams and outputs, mentoring designers when required, helping brief
        and co-ordinate external visual collaborators, ensuring a high level of conceptual and aesthetic clarity
        across individual projects and develop and honing our broader visual identity.


        Innovation & Development


        • To innovate and learn from new technologies and explore new solutions to make our workflows and
        processes more efficient and effective

        What We’re Looking For


        We are looking for passionate visual storyteller and problem solver with an eye for beautiful image, who
        understands both the technical craft and the emotional impact of digital imagery.


        • A strong eye for composition, light, mood and detail
        • An understanding of spatial design and architecture
        • The ability to interpret, elevate and amplify design intent
        • Proficiency and enthusiasm for in AI-enhanced image generation workflows
        • A proactive, collaborative and curious mindset
