The Role:

We are seeking highly skilled Senior Architects and project leaders experienced in various sectors to join our New York and Los Angeles studios. In this role, you will leverage your design expertise and project delivery experience to contribute to projects. As a key member of our team, you will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, leadership, and professionalism. Collaboration, reliability, and accountability for meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work are paramount. Your proactive approach will focus on design, project delivery, and exceeding client and firm-wide expectations. The successful candidate will excel in all aspects of project delivery, including client interaction, design-team coordination, consultant collaboration, and leading the production of construction documents.

What You Will Do:

  • Generate creative design solutions to projects at different phases from conceptual design through construction administration.
  • Work as part of a team, coordinating your work and skills with other team members and under the guidance and direction of the project leader and partners.
  • Help to resolve design and technical challenges.
  • Engage and coordinate with Grimshaw’s other design and engineering consultants.
  • Exhibit a passion and strive for design excellence.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff within your projects and the studio, fostering a commitment to professional development.
  • Help contribute to the life of the studio, studio-wide initiatives and challenges, our design and sustainability culture, and the broader social and wellness culture at Grimshaw.
  • Travel periodically as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent 5-year professional degree in Architecture from an accredited school required.
  • Minimum of 10+ years related professional experience.
  • Experience in aviation, rail, and related transit-infrastructure highly prioritized.
  • Experience in culture, hospitality, workplace, master planning, higher education and sports sectors also valuable
  • Other large-scale sector experience a plus.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and client-facing skills.
  • Proficiency in digital design tools is required (Revit, Rhino; parametric design tools a plus).
  • Proven experience managing teams and coordinating with consultants.
  • Time management, prioritization skills, and a meticulous attention to detail required.
  • Ability to communicate clear design ideas and direction quickly.
  • Experience of designing net-zero carbon projects.
  • Experience in working collaboratively in mid to large-sized teams and contributing to the design of large projects is prioritized.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from $100,000 - $130,000+, excluding profit share and other benefits. This is a good faith estimate based on the expectations as laid out in the job description. Job Description

Grimshaw's Sydney studio is is looking for a passionate and talented BIM Coordinator to join our in-house Design Technology team, to support project teams in the application of BIM on projects, promote the use of appropriate tools and workflows, and contribute to the wider BIM capabilities of Grimshaw

The BIM Coordinator role is primarily focussed on supporting projects, with the successful candidate contributing to project BIM discussions, exploring and developing opportunities for Design Technology, as well as contributing towards the studio DT strategy. A BIM Coordinator is relied upon to have extensive knowledge in their area(s) of expertise and may also represent Grimshaw externally.

Core responsibilities of the role will cover project-enabling activities including ongoing at-desk support and training, initial project setup, and ensuring all project BIM work complies with the appropriate standards and performing coordination and clash detection on models.

Additional responsibilities will include contributing to studio DT initiatives, documenting exemplar work and contributing to global DT knowledge repositories.

The Grimshaw Design Technology team offers a vibrant, varied and fast-paced environment. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced proven knowledge of Autodesk Revit or other relevant BIM authoring packages.
  • Proficient knowledge of Autodesk Construction Cloud.
  • Knowledge of Rhino is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Grasshopper is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Dynamo is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of interoperability, particularly between Revit and Rhino, is beneficial.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of PowerBI is beneficial
  • Knowledge of relevant QA processes.
  • Knowledge of model federation and coordination.
  • Knowledge of programming with C# and/or Python is beneficial.

EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in architecture, engineering, architectural technology, or another relevant subject.
  • Revit exam-based certification is beneficial.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience applying BIM in practice.
  • An understanding of computational concepts and software is beneficial.
  • Experience of delivering projects to relevant BIM standards (ISO19650, etc.).

  • Creates and innovates with a strong conceptual design ability and integrates interdisciplinary criteria to effectively move the design of a project component(s) forward.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of Interiors and Architectural building materials and finishes, building systems, specifications, current and applicable building, design and detailing standards and construction techniques. Able to enrich design concepts through technical strategies and effectively uses appropriate tools to research, design and document at all project phases.

  • Contributes to the development of BIM model(s) and associated drawings with direction from BIM Manager and Project Teams, according to appropriate standards.
  • Assists in the coordination of Project BIM models, process management and objectives with other disciplines and consultants. 
  • Actively collaborates at a project team level by critically and constructively evaluating ideas with regard to BIM deliverables.
  • Seeks creative and innovative ideas/solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documentation to support such solutions with direction from BIM Lead/Specialist.
  • Provides both narrowly focused and widely diverse support in production of Project BIM and project documentation process.

  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of office standards, guidelines, best-practices, tool development and software used by architects for all BIM and related Project workflows and deliverables with direction from BIM Lead/Manager/Specialist.  Effectively uses appropriate tools to assist with project document control tasks, especially with regard to BIM deliverables and archiving digital models, recording processes, scripts, etc.

  • Completion of a professional degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • Exhibits initiative, problem solving with a high attention to precision and accuracy at a task-specific level.

  • General knowledge of architectural practice including site-planning, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical engineering, and construction.

  • General understanding of sustainable strategies and principles including familiarity with LEED or other green building rating systems.
